A World Without Color July 19 2013

July 19 2013 A World without Color ~ An Illusion?optical-illusion-in-grey-tones

If the World boasted no color, just various shades of grey
No azure blue of the ocean, or bluffs of swirly red clay
If houses would be crafted in grey stone, and the sun never did shine,
At least not in the mauve, pinkish hues, we watch for at sunset time.
Then, would the World be draped in sadness? Would M&Ms lose their thrill?
Would hatred have a foothold?  Or would we all live in Pleasantville.

For it causes me now to wonder, as I ponder a World more sublime
That without any green for envy, or blue for sadness inside
There would be no people of color, white, black, yellow or brown.
With no red to color them angry, no yellow to help oppressors keep down.
Or would nothing be different, is this World as good as it gets?
No rainbows, no yellow brick road, no rose red, no regrets.

So I am mindful to live in the moment, regardless how drab my day
I can refuse to live in that colorless World, and choose to stand up and say
I see color as a philocalic expression, of oneness, escape from mundane
A celebration of life in grand union, all dressed in Techno display
So I challenge all those on the grey side, loose the chains , don’t delay
Or mechanically measure grey tones from birth to judgment day.

A vigil Gazing at the night sky While

fireflies
A vigil
Gazing at the night sky
While the trees sleep
Feeling the heartbeat of the earth
Savoring the gift of silence …
And occasional fire fly
Playing hard to get
With the stars.
All is right
In the moment.

sprinkler2

I rarely idle time away
But while waiting for a friend today
I settled on a bench~ in a children’s park

I watched the children screech and play
As they frolicked springtime hours away
And I envied them their freedom~ what a lark!

The sprinkler sprayed The swings swayed
As children struggled gamely~ to disembark

As I enviously surveyed the glad display
I observed another watcher meet my gaze
My humor mirrored hers~ an answering smirk!

For even though our childhood days
Were but a mist and gone away
In that shared smile~ the memories lurked.

Minions~ For Everyone

minime

I was conversing with a young friend in the computer industry the other day. He enthusiastically informed me that he had finally got a new *Minion* at work, and life couldn’t be better! It got me to thinking…What is a minion and how can I get one? He explained that this individual had been hired to assist him in his work and his job description was whatever my friend needed him to do.

If you are scratching your head at this moment asking yourself..minion? Isn’t that like slavery? And slavery is not acceptable, right?

Well, A minion is usually known today as a follower devoted to serve his/her master relentlessly in a negative way. The Austin Powers movies featuring Dr. Evil and his Mini Me were always working together evilly  to rule the world!!!

Design-Dispicable-Me-Minion-Tut010

In the movie Despicable Me they are depicted as weird little beings that were extremely devoted, but a little dumb.

So I did some checking and found that the concept of a minion was a bit more complicated than that.

Meaning: A servant’s heart, dependent (on Him), highly favored (by God)… yup! “Minion defined for Kids” says, “A person who obediently serves…”Middle French mignon darling( First Known Use: circa 1500)
Darling? Yup I definitely need to get me a minion.

I Review Michael Kimball Writes Your Life Story (On a Postcard)

Awesome

Kimball final cover copy

“I never expected strangers to tell me so much about themselves, so many things they have never told anybody else, but I found an unexpected intimacy in the postcard life story project,” writes Michael Kimball in the introduction to his new book, the aptly titled Michael Kimball Writes Your Life Story (On a Postcard). Kimball continues: “It tapped into something human and humane. I was continually amazed by what people told me.”

Kimball’s respect for the people whose stories he is telling comes through in his spare but descriptive prose, an economical rhetoric undoubtedly necessitated by the confines of his small canvasses. When I interviewed Kimball about the project, he told me:

There are difficult things at different stages of the process. The first difficult thing is asking the right questions for the particular participant. The second difficult thing is being representative when condensing what I’ve been told…

St Patrick’s Day 2013~ The Limerick

leprechaun playing a violinToday was St Patrick’s Day, so we celebrated the wee bit O’ the Irish on my side of the family. A Tip O’ the hat to the Garvin kin!

Garvin  Name Meaning~ Irish: reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Gairbhín‘descendant of Gairbhín’, a personal name derived from a diminutive of garbh ‘rough’, ‘cruel fate’.

Lunch was a delight..little potatoes smothered in Salsa verde, green salads and succulent slabs of corned beef and cabbage rolls. When we thought we could eat no more,  out came the fresh applesauce cake with green whipping cream and lucky coins….mmmmmm. My guess is that if St. Paddy ate like this he was probably quite rotund lol.

We celebrated with a poem called a Limerick, also an Irish tradition.

Limericks are one of the most fun and well-known poetic forms. No one knows for sure where the name “limerick” comes from, but most people assume it is related to the county of Limerick, in Ireland. They are short, rhyming, funny, and have a bouncy rhythm that makes them easy to memorize.  My Grandson Ethan Hallex wrote this Limerick. Hat’s off to him too!

A Man Named Delete.

There once was a man named Delete
His name he would have to repeat
He liked to play Lego
With his pal Eggo
Which was his favorite to eat.

I wonder if Eggo was green? Hope your day was a fun as ours 🙂

Couldn’t resist one last limerick…….;)

There was a young fellow named Hall
Who fell in a spring in the Fall.
T’would have seen a sad thing,
had he died in the Spring,
But he didn’t—he died in the fall.
