Autumn leaves & pumpkins please🎃

  Autumn

leaves us

floating on winds

drifting around and down

golden

Vcl©️

Don’t worry, we aren’t decorating for autumn in our home quite yet, but it was fun pulling a few things out the other day when I was rearranging the storage room. I was excited to find my box of pumpkin carvers. It is an art in our family and we look forward to the pre-planning …picking the design, finding the right pumpkin, exploring new ideas and dream of spice and everything nice.

Wait for more fun pics 🎃 friends.

But first I’m packing those suitcases I dragged from the storage room with summer clothing and flip flops.

Yeah Cuba….see you soon!❤️

Old Memory

Image

One cannot travel through life devoid of scars.

Each nightly ritual reminds of stories past as you

Sluice away at the open wounds of the day.

I trace a silver line on the curve of my foot,

Conjuring up memories of hurried feet along train tracks,

The shortcut to home. Furtively listening for the train whistle

That would squeal on us, my brother and I hastened home.

In my haste, I stumbled on a broken beer bottle, flung negligently.

The gash was deep, he tore his shirt in strips and bound me safe.

I hobbled home. We laughed. My brother gave me the shirt off his back.

I retrace the silver line fondly.

Carpe Diem’s 2nd episode of the “Use that Quote” Challenge.  The goal is to write a haiku, senryu, tanka or kyoka inspired on a given quote.

Today’s quote: “Forget not that the Earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair” ~~ Khalil Gibran

My Bare feet patter

Playfully scuffing the earth

Wind sifting through toes

I long to sing of summer
And the brilliance new growth brings
I wish to walk the mossy paths…
Hear bubbly brooks of spring.

I dream of languid evenings
Of cozy drumming rain
Instead, I close my book, fight on my boots
And shovel the driveway again.
